F.A.Qs. (Frequently Asked Questions):

Q.: What is Zen?

A.: Zen is letting go of your thoughts, ideas, and beliefs, in order to open up to the present moment. What are you doing right now?

Q.: How can I open up to the present moment?

A.: There are many practices in the Zen tradition. Sitting meditation is probably the most accessible, but other practices include kong-an practice, keeping the great question, and taking precepts. If you already have a meditation method that works for you, you can use that during sitting, or the group leaders can give you some instruction.

Q.: Do I need to sign up in advance to come to meditation practice?

A.:  No, feel free to just show up.

Q.: How should I prepare?

A.: Please be punctual. Wear comfortable clothes.  If this is your first time, we request you arrive 20 minutes early so we have time to orient you.

Q.: Who attends meditation sessions?

A.: People from all walks of life, from beginners to meditation, to advanced Zen practitioners, and everyone else in between. First time meditators are welcome.

Q.: How many people attend?

A.: Both Monday Thursday groups are small, typically ranging from five to eight people per week.

Q.: What can I expect during practice?

A.: Both sessions include chanting, two 20 minute sitting meditation sessions, walking meditation, and a short Zen reading.

Q.: Is there a fee?

A.:  A donation basket is available for those wishing to make a $5.00 donation as part of their practice.
